On September 26, about 200 faithful of the Society of St. Pius X (FSSPX) made their annual pilgrimage to the Canadian Martyrs’ Shrine in Midland, Ontario.
Their published programme scheduled veneration of the relics at the Shrine at 3 p.m. The pilgrims were denied entrance to the church. According to LifeSiteNews.com, this was ordered by the Archdiocese of Toronto.
The FSSPX has made this pilgrimage for years. In September 2025, more than 500 FSSPX pilgrims attended.
In contrast to the denial of entry to the FSSPX pilgrims, in July 2026 the Archdiocese of Toronto advertised the annual Tamil pilgrimage at the same Shrine. Its announcement invited “Tamil Catholics and other Tamil-speaking devotees” to a programme including Rosary, Eucharist and Adoration, concluding: “All Are Welcome!”
