Modernity

"Contemporary Western ideology is based this time not only on a simple illusion, but on an illusion and a madness that have become total and totalitarian. Our societies find themselves plunged not into the light of science or simple common sense, but into the most complete and formidable obscurantism there is, that of rationalism, scientism, and modernism. There is no ideology more complete, more stupid, and more dangerous than the one that thinks itself enlightened by science, by reason, and marching towards infinite progress.

It is this ideology which ignores the most basic facts, more than any primitive society. And the great tragedy of the contemporary world is that entire populations share it today, following a globalized semantic manipulation with multiple entries.

The enterprise of anthropological dismemberment that underlies Modernity is based on the negation, which claims to be legitimized by science and reason, of everything that has allowed man in primitive or traditional societies to correspond roughly to the vocations that are naturally his. It is now a matter of deconstructing everything that was known, down to elementary knowledge, everything that was known as essential in relation to humanity, of undoing all the institutions that had been specially thought out and conceived to help man to achieve his goals. Everything that previously allowed access, despite everything, to true holiness and science is today destroyed in the name of progress." (Fundamental Anthropology, p. 132)
