Baptism by Sedevacantist Bishop in Catholic Church

Archbishop Paulo Jackson Nóbrega de Sousa of Olinda and Recife, Brazil, has warned the faithful about an “alleged baptism” celebrated at the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows in Recife’s Graças neighborhood.

In a February 22 statement, the archdiocese said the rite was presided over by a man who presents himself as a bishop but has no canonical bond with the Catholic Church. Although not named in the note, the celebrant was Rodrigo Henrique Ribeiro da Silva, who identifies as a sedevacantist bishop.

“The public administration of Baptism by someone not in communion with the Church, especially in a Catholic church, constitutes a gravely illicit act,” the statement said.

The archdiocese acknowledged shortcomings in the authorization process, noting that greater prior verification should have taken place at the parish level.

Illicit - but valid, and the Church knows it!

Emergency Cases: In Catholic teaching, while ordained ministers are the ordinary ministers of baptism, anyone—including a non-baptized person—can perform a valid baptism in a case of necessity (emergency) using water and the Trinitarian formula.

It's illicit for the conciliar church, of course. The Catholic Church knows it.

Note: Baptism by a person not in communion with the conciliar church. This is an important distinction.

I was first baptised by the Jewish doctor who delivered me, he agreed to do it properly due to danger of death, being born at 6 1/2 months. This was 1960, when baptism was taken seriously.
