Profile
Son of a presbyter named Leo. Pope. Caught in the middle of intrigues between corrupt civil rules, John spent most of his pontificate under their influence. Helped bring about the Peace of Rouen, 1 March 991, which ended hostilities between England and Normandy. Supported several parishes, monasteries and convents, and was the special patron of the monks of Cluny. His recognition of the Saint Ulrich of Augsburg, the first formal papal canonization.
